Californian Dreaming reflects on the symbolism of swimming pools within the American Dream. Created during a scorching British summer, Seow employs etching and chine-collé techniques to render sky and water gradients, drawing inspiration from the Japanese woodblock printing method bokashi (ぼかし). This work also examines themes of Japanese immigration to America in the early 20th century.

Cheen Fuen Seow is a Malaysian-born artist who has lived in the UK since the mid-90s. His work merges cultural influences, blending traditional artistic elements with digital tools to bridge past and present. Through his prints, he explores themes of cultural identity, artistic conventions, and the evolving nature of art in a globalised world, inviting deeper engagement from the viewer.
