Joshua Bristow is an artist & architectural designer based in London whose interests lie in the intersection between conservation, architecture and the landscape. His practice of printmaking is heavily underpinned by drawing from both observation and memory. This oscillation allows him to interrogate the spatial, tectonic and poetic qualities within very specific urban and natural landscapes. Joshua’s most recent series of prints are based on his ongoing research into Gothic, Classical and Byzantine architecture. Palpable tensions emerge as the fragile readings within the monotype prints explore themes of memory, ruination and the changing landscape. Joshua completed his RIBA Part I and Part II architectural studies at the University of Cambridge and the London Metropolitan University, respectively; as well as completing a postgraduate scholarship in Drawing at the Royal Drawing School in 2017. In 2018, he won the Bainbridge Prize for Contemporary Printmaking. Selected Group exhibition highlights include: Christie’s, London (2017), Buckingham Palace via the Royal Drawing School (2018, 2019 & 2022), the RA Summer Show (2019), the Architecture Drawing Prize, Soanne Museum (2021), the Trinity Buoy Wharf Working Drawing Prize (2021-2022), the International Original Print Exhibition, Bankside (2022), The Bainbridge Open (2023), and The Gallery at Green & Stone Summer Exhibition (2024). His prints and drawings are held within various international collections. Highlights of which include The Royal Collection, The Moritz-Heyman Collection & The David Ross Collection.
