My work is a done in a journalistic mode to explore events and experiences in my life. The catalysts are varied and include my family history, my experiences living with type 1 diabetes, my Shawnee Native American heritage, evocative texts, and antique photography. The work is an evolving philosophy of identity. The process of transforming a drawing into a printing matrix is crucial to my practice. My imagery relies on figurative drawing. My work is diverse in media, utilizing photographic and digital techniques in conjunction with traditional printmaking. The manipulation of a photograph, the use of etching, cutting away extraneous wood, drawing with grease on a lithographic stone, and monotype painting combine in a layering of content that is an excellent metaphor for the myriad ways identity is formed. This heavy use of process, unique to printmaking, keeps me alert and open to new ways of working.
