Ben Hancocks born Lincolnshire 1951, studied, Grimsby School of Art 1967-1970, Camberwell School of Art 1970-1973. Having created works from freehand drawings of zig zag forms for over 50 years, the recent prints of Ben Hancocks come from a continuing series of pieces (including drawings and sculptures), entitled “elements of chaos”. The shape of the forms reflect his love of early woodcut Totentanz prints, the drawings of fighting and dancing demons by the 15th century Transoxanian artist Mehmed Siyah Qalam and the flying images in Goyas Caprichos. Ben mixes his own ink to enable him to control the plate tone through which his shapes move.
