Sally’s etchings explore the energetic encounters and intimacy of active moving figures in city life, as well as the sensation of the isolated individual. The images are all directly derived from the live-drawings Sally makes during contemporary dance rehearsals and improvisations. She creates the images on zinc plates, using painterly marks and textures with the use of sugar lift and spit bite aquatint.
Sally regularly exhibits in solo and group exhibitions, including at The Royal Academy Summer Show and The Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. Sally’s work is held in public and private collections including the V&A, Scarborough Museum Print Archives and Martha Graham Dance Company, NYC. She works from her studio at Thames-Side Studios and is a key-holder at the Thames-Side Print Studio.
After graduating from Goldsmiths with a degree in Fine Art & Dance, followed by a post-graduate diploma in Printmaking Sally has remained living and working in South East London. She took her MA Fine Art at City & Guilds of London Art School in 2002.
Sally leads community arts projects in arts festivals, she runs a weekly community art class at Thames-Side Studios and teaches evening classes at Blackheath Conservatoire.
