Camilla Perkins

Perkins is an acclaimed British artists and illustrator, based in Lewes, East Sussex. With a passion for fine art, she explores the profound impact of colour on memory, transforming her creations into portals to dream-like landscapes of summer getaways and emerald gardens.

With an emphasis on delicate beauty and serenity, Perkins’ artistic expressions capture the tranquil essence of nature, blossoming flowers and gardens. Her work also delves into the intricate bonds between women and their families, delicately exploring the profound connections between mothers and daughters. Against the ethereal backdrop of the British countryside, these themes resonate deeply with the artists herself. In her art practice, Perkins uses vibrant oil pastels and paint to achieve a surreal colour palette. Combined with bold and dynamic brushwork, Perkins deliberately employs thick and visible strokes, reminiscent of post-impressionist tradition, to create dreamscapes and still-lives brimming with texture. Her large-scale oil paintings of gardens bursting with life are filled with pattern and almost invite the viewer to step right into them.

Her style, established and recognisable, has been hugely influenced by vintage textiles from around the world, as well as the colour palette from the mid-century children’s books, which she grew up reading.  By combining both, gestural elements, and clever utilization of negative spaces within the canvas, the artist achieves a unique stylized pattern within the canvas, capturing the essence of blossoming gardens and scenes taking place within them. Whether inspired by real-life scenes or taken purely from her imagination, the artist relies solely on her intuition and skill, creating pieces without any under-sketching.

Camilla Perkins was born in Hastings, UK in 1990 and graduated the University of Westminster in 2012. Since then, she has worked as an illustrator on commercial projects for client including Apple, Google, Coca Cola, Samsung and many more. Perkins has also taught workshops for Jo Malone, Charleston, and the V&A. More recently she has expanded her artistic practice, collaborating with her husband, Jack, to craft unique hand-made and painted furniture pieces, as well as continuing working on her fine art drawings, painting and prints.
